Official Homepage

Formed in 2006 by Ryotaro Aoki and Kotone Miyahara, Kulu Kulu Garden are based in Tokyo. Joined by Kyohei Takahashi from Far France on drums, they recorded their first official EP, Detorake Yuuenchi, in the summer of 2009.

Loud as hell, this power trio is bringing fun back to indie rock. Frenetic pacing and aggressive guitar work from ryotaro is juxtaposed with child-like vocal work reminiscent of midori and tsushimamire from Miyahara that is both eclectic and memorable. In the chaotic nature of Aoki and Miyahara's boundless energy, Takahashi's tight drum work is able to highlight the dissonant harmonies and reign in the spastic freak outs that gives their music a great sense of dynamics. Like their influences such as Boredoms, Melt-Banana, and Afrirampo, Kulu Kulu Garden has found a way to make insanity catchy.

Recently, the band has taken advantage of the lack of a full-time drummer and has started an acoustic set, where the band rearranges their material into a quieter, more melody-based arrangement that brings their knack for pop songs to the fore.
