uhnellys

uhnellys are a live band incorporating elements of jazz, funk, post-punk and hip hop into a fresh and hypnotic soundscape. There is no DJ. There are no pre-recorded samples. All the music is created live by this incredible duet. Kim is a one-man orchestra as he separately plays basslines, guitar hooks, trumpet arrangements, and beatbox and layers them together with a loop-pedal. Then he adds thought provoking rhymes as Midi enhances the rhythm with her immaculate jazzy drum style. Midi is definitely not just eye candy as she provides sultry crooning and has ridiculous chops on drums. One cannot judge this band by their CDs or youtube clips alone. uhnellys' stage performance is mindbending and absolutely breathtaking when experienced live.

uhnellys have travelled to and performed in the UK and Singapore. They have collaborated and recorded songs with Juno-nominated Canadian emcee SHAD as well as Mike Doughty of indie rock legends, Soul Coughing. On Sept 26 they will be performing at neutralnation 2010 with some of Japan's greatest bands including toe, Clammbon, LITE & nisennenmondai.
