MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS

MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS began as an all-female 3-pc rock band originating in Kobe, Japan. They gained a huge underground following based on their melodic and emotional but uncharacteristically fierce and powerful sound. On signing with major label EMI Records their once ferocious and noise-laden style veered in a poppier, mainstream direction. Both the original drummer and guitarist would leave the band and despite the help of support musicians MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS ultimately ceased activity in 2012.

Front-woman Natsuko “Nacchan” Miyamoto continued on with a solo career as a singer-songwriter but there were rumors she wanted to revive the band. In December 2015, the rumor became reality as Nacchan announced on twitter that MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS would start playing shows again with Isao Yoshino returning on drums and Naoya Ogura (Qomolangma Tomato) on guitar. This is the same line-up that played the majority of shows in 2012 after original guitarist Chiemi Ishimoto left the band.

On December 29, 2015 MOTFD performed a sold out show in Shimokitazawa with attendance well past legal capacity and numerous, notable musicians in the crowd including Kida of tricot. And the greatest news of all is that MOTFD’s sound is more massive and ferocious than ever with set lists consisting of only their earliest and most powerful songs.

This will be the second time MOTFD come to Canada as part of the Next Music from Tokyo tour. In 2010, NMFT vol 2 was named the concert of the year by two separate journalists in the Montreal Mirror primarily on the strength of MOTFD’s crowd-slaying performance. MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS is easily one of the best Japanese female bands of all-time and they will bring their legendary massive sound and powerful live performance back to Canada in May.
