UGHH Mix Tape: Where my tunes go?
The background music to the En Masse clip really transported me back to my university days when I immersed myself thoroughly in underground hip hop. Jazzy instrumentals, clever punchlines and butter flows. The complete opposite of the fecal discharge Black Eyed Peas churn out to abuse my ears and mutilate my sanity. Here's a mix of some of my favorite underground hip hop tracks from back in the day. You can extrapolate my discerning taste in hip hop to get a sense of the type of indie/underground Japanese music that currently whets my appetite.
1. Rubberoom & Hi-fidel ft Slug - "Midwest (B-Money Remix)" 2. Binary Star - "Glenn Close" "Reality Check" 3. Masterminds - "Memories" 4. J-Zone - "Smurf Syndrome" 5. Cunninlynguists - "Lynguistics" 6. Walkmen - "fortruss" "Countdown Theory"" 7. A Tribe Called Quest - "Can I Kick It?" 8. Del & Heiroglyphics - "Burnt" 9. CYNE - "Steady" 10. Nujabes ft Cise Starr & Akin - "Feather" 11. Ground Floor - "One, Two" 12. Common Sense - "Watermelon" 13. Styles Infinite - "FRESH AIR" 14. Styles of Beyond - "style warz" 15. Natural Elements - "Second Hand Smoke" "Lyrical Tactics (Primo remix)" 16. KMD - "Peach Fuzz" "Nitty Gritty"
KMD's "Mr Hood" was the first hip hop album I ever bought. Loved it to death. Then it went on to A Tribe Called Quest, Leaders of the New School, Brand Nubian, Heiro, Wu Tang, Beatnuts, Common Sense, Ras Kass, Lord Finesse, Big L. Venturing deeper underground to Dynospectrum, Slug, Sage Francis, Binary Star, J-Zone..... Man, those were the days. :)
